The new school year is fast approaching! We are excited that you have chosen a Theatre class or are joining our Drama Club and would like to welcome you. We have an exciting year of productions and drama club events planned! The more you are involved, the better our productions and drama club events will be. There are opportunities for everyone that wants to be involved in our department. We have acting opportunities in our Mainstage Show, Thespian Showcase, Musical, One-Act Play Competition, Student-Directs and Encore. If you prefer to work behind the scenes or you just want to be involved in the productions in some way, we have various crews that are essential to the realization of our productions. Student leaders have the opportunity to become Designers and Crew Heads. You can join lighting, sound, set construction, costumes, props, publicity or stage management.
We are thrilled to announce that we will be adding a new teacher to our wonderful KF Drama family this year! Leslie Rhodes is a theatre veteran of 32 years. She has worked in all aspects of theatre and music from community theater to national tours. She has 17 years of teaching experience in grades k-12. Her undergraduate degree is from Berklee College of Music in Boston and she holds a Masters degree in teaching. She is absolutely THRILLED to be at Klein Forest and can already feel the energy of the department by the few students she has already had the pleasure of meeting. She would like to thank Ms. Heath, Mr West and Ms Crittendon for the warm welcome into Klein Forest family.
Our first show of the school year will be The Game’s Afoot, or Holmes for the Holidays, by Ken Ludwig, a farcical comedy who-done-it. This will be a mainstage show in the auditorium directed by Mrs. Shaun Heath. The performance dates are Thursday, October 23th through Saturday, October 25th. Rehearsals are typically 3-5PM Monday through Friday and will begin on September 8th. Auditions for the show are now closed but everyone is still welcomed to come and help with the production. Students have the opportunity to contribute their hard work in areas such as building set, creating costume, and designing/drawing posters. It’s a great experience to understand how the show come to life and anyone is welcome to help!
Our second show will be a Showcase of competition pieces that will be competing at The Thespian State Festival and an improv comedy night. This show will be presented week of November 3rd. All competition pieces (acting or technical) will be arranged through Mrs. Heath or in Production classes.
Our Third production will be a musical, directed by Mrs. Rhodes. We will be collaborating with the music and dance departments to create another award-winning show! Auditions will be in late October, and performances will be January 29, 30 & 31st.
In March we will compete in the UIL One-Act Play competition, directed by Mr. West. More information will come regarding the show and audition dates later.
We will also have a comedy showcase each semester, and hope to have Student-Directed show(s) to end out the school year along with our participation with the Goldduster’s Encore! These productions will be a great chance for many of you to get more experience on-stage or behind the scenes.
The Drama club is open to anyone who enjoys drama whether they are in a theatre class or not. We will hold a meeting once a month. These meetings will keep you up-to-date on what is happening in the department and will also give details about our drama club events. We will also host an event every month, to interact with the members and enjoy to company of the club. There is a 20$ due to become a member of the club. You must pay the fee in order to participate in any of the organized events. Our upcoming drama club event is the Drama Club Meeting on October 14th and the Halloween Party on October 31st and it is opened to the whole school and no fee is required. We’d hope to see you there!
All theatre students should be scheduled in the correct class this year. When you check your schedule, please let me know if your theatre class is not correct. All freshmen that auditioned for a production class made it. If your schedule does not include a theatre class, it could be because of scheduling conflicts (IBA, AVID). If you still want to take Theatre, contact your counselor and let me know as well. Junior Varsity Acting meets 4th period, Varsity Acting, Varsity Technical Productions, and Freshman Acting Productions meet 5th period, and Freshman Technical Production will meet 7th period.
We look forward to seeing all of you soon and making this our most successful season/school year ever! Please check out our website at www.kleinforestdrama.org and if you have any questions, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
