Breaking new ground for Klein Forest

Evita is a rock opera, composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber (Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat).  It was first performed in London’s West End in 1978 before making it’s way to Broadway in 1980.  There, it was won 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.  Year’s later it was made into a movie musical featuring Madonna, Antonio Banderas and Jonathan Price.  In 2006 it came back to London’s West End and in 2012 it was revived on Broadway.

Klein Forest High School’s upcoming production is sure to be a crowd pleaser.  This show has never been performed by a Klein ISD school.  This production features a very large cast of over 40 singers and actors, 60 dancers and 20 children from the Greenwood Elementary choir.  In addition it features an orchestra of over 30 student musicians from the Klein Forest Orchestra and Band Departments.  This truly is a collaborative production with assistance from the Klein forest cosmetology department as well.

You are not going to want to miss this upcoming production on January 22, 23, 28, 28 and 30th.  All tickets are reserved seating and are available on campus during the week prior to the show during all lunch periods for $10 or $12 on our website or at the door.  Group tickets are available for groups of 20 or more (for a single performance) are available for an additional discount by contacting Leslie Rhodes at lrhodes1@kleinisd.net.

Welcome to KF Theater 2015-2016!

Klein Forest High School

Theater Department

The new school year is here! We are excited that you have chosen a theater class or are joining our Klein Forest Theater Club and would like to welcome you. We have an exciting year of productions and drama club events planned! The more you are involved, the better our productions and drama club events will be. There are opportunities for everyone that wants to be involved in our department. We have acting opportunities in our Mainstage Show, Thespian Showcase, Musical, One-Act Play Competition, Student-Directs and Encore. If you prefer to work behind the scenes or you just want to be involved in the productions in some way, we have various crews that are essential to the realization of our productions. Student leaders have the opportunity to become Designers and Crew Heads. You can join lighting, sound, set construction, costumes, props, publicity or stage management.

We are thrilled to announce that we will be adding two new teachers to our wonderful KF Theater family this year!  Walter Baker is our newest addition and he brings a wealth of theatrical experience to Klein Forest.  He has worked in theatre for over 30 years on both the technical side and working as a performer and director.  He holds a Master’s Degree in Directing from Purdue University and will serve as Klein Forest’s Technical Director.  In addition to leading our advanced tech classes, he will also be directing this year’s fall play Picasso at Lapin Agile  and our One-Act Play in the spring that we will bring to the UIL competition.  We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Baker to our staff.

In addition, Klein Forest Theater wishes to welcome Mrs. Autumn Palm as our third theater teacher.  She brings a wealth of experience to our department as an actor/performer, costume designer and organizational guru.  Mrs. Palm will be working closely with the KF Theater Booster club.  We are thrilled to have her on our team.

The Theater club is open to anyone who enjoys theater whether they are in a theater class or not. We will hold a meeting once a month.  These meetings will keep you up-to-date on what is happening in the department and will also give details about our drama club events. We will also host an event every month, to interact with the members and enjoy to company of the club. There is a 20$ due to become a member of the club. You must pay the fee in order to participate in any of the organized events. Our upcoming drama club event is a WaterPalooza event being held on September 1st.  This event is open to all Klein Forest Students regardless of whether or not you have joined Theater Club. Future events will require Theater Club Membership to participate.

We look forward to a fantastic year at Klein Forest and know that this will be our most successful school year ever! If  you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via email me at lrhodes1@kleinisd.net
